Hikes

Hiking in Reunion Island is a truly unique and exhilarating experience. Located in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar, Reunion Island is a French overseas department known for its breathtaking natural landscapes, including lush rainforests, towering mountains, and dramatic coastline.

The island is home to more than 900 kilometers of hiking trails that wind through the island's varied terrain, from gentle coastal walks to challenging mountain climbs. The trails are well-marked and maintained, making them accessible to hikers of all skill levels.

One of the most popular hikes on the island is the Piton de la Fournaise, an active volcano that rises to a height of 2,632 meters. The hike to the summit takes around 5 hours and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape, including craters, lava fields, and the Indian Ocean.

Another popular hike is the Cirque de Mafate, a remote valley that is only accessible by foot. This hike takes around 2-3 days to complete and offers hikers the chance to explore traditional Creole villages, rugged mountain terrain, and cascading waterfalls.

Other notable hikes on Reunion Island include the Trou de Fer, a deep canyon with towering waterfalls, and the Piton des Neiges, the island's highest peak at 3,070 meters.
